You can get Amazon delivered in the Netherlands in a couple of different ways. If you are a UK Amazon shopper, you can get many items shipped internationally.
You can also use Amazon.nl or Amazon.de to shop and deliver to the Netherlands, but your Prime account may not work if you are a UK customer.
Alternatively you can try some Dutch alternatives to Amazon like Bol.com, which operates within the Netherlands and offers speedy shipping on a large range of products – similar to Amazon.
Getting Amazon delivered to Netherlands
Yes – you can get Amazon delivered to the Netherlands from Amazon UK if the delivery is fulfilled by Amazon. If delivery is fulfilled by third-party sellers then this is determined by the seller.
International addresses are not eligible for Amazon Prime free delivery or any discount. (You can always use or trial a local Prime account for NL or DE).
Standard delivery takes 2-5 days and costs are as follows:
- Music, DVD, Blu-ray, software, video games (excluding consoles) – £2.80 per delivery + £0.40 per kg
- Books (includes audio books) – £4.00 per delivery + £0.40 per kg
- Other categories (including video games consoles) – £4.00 per delivery + £0.40 per kg
Priority delivery takes 2 days and is £5.70 per delivery, while 1-day delivery is £9. For additional item weight there are also additional charges.
For full details of Amazon UK delivery rates to the Netherlands you can check this page about international shipping from the UK. Remember this only applies to delivery fulfilled by Amazon, not third parties.
You can filter Amazon UK search by “international shipping eligible” in the sidebar. Use this link to start searching with this filter already enabled.
Shopping on Amazon.nl
Amazon.nl is very new to the Netherlands. It only sold e-books until 2019 when Amazon.nl launched as a full online shop. Now is has a much larger selection of products and you can get free shipping with a Dutch Prime account.
Amazon DE might be cheaper than NL
You can also buy from Amazon.de which has been operating for longer and has a larger inventory of products. Until recently many Dutch shoppers used the German Amazon, and many still do as it is often cheaper than listings on Amazon.nl.
Amazon alternatives in Netherlands for online shopping
These are some popular Dutch online shops that can be used instead of Amazon.
Bol.com has a wide range of products including electronics, fashion, clothing, household items, drinks, pet supplies, music, DVDs, books and e-books, jewellery, car and bike accessories. This makes it fairly similar to Amazon but with faster delivery within the Netherlands. It also allows third party sellers on the platform like Amazon which keeps prices competitive and increases the range of products.
Fast delivery is a key selling point for this site compared to Amazon.de. Items can get posted the same day (in Amsterdam at least), next day or within a couple of days. You can also collect same day or whenever suits you using collection points at places like Albert Hein.
Bol.com can be a little more expensive than Amazon but not always and quality of products seems to be more reliable.
Another big online retailer in NL is CoolBlue which focuses on electronics, computers, gardening, kitchen appliances. This site is great for things like buying a television, smartphone, a washing machine, laptop or computer peripherals and parts including a wide range of PC parts.
The site also offers an English version, free and fast shipping, easy returns.
Paying for online shopping in Netherlands
A common payment method in Netherlands is iDeal which is the payment service offered by Dutch bank accounts and is easy to use. If you have recently moved to the Netherlands it is probably worth getting a Dutch bank account (guide coming soon). Even Amazon.de accepts iDeal payments which is useful.
You can usually also pay using Mastercard, Visa and Credit Cards. However if you’re using a UK based account then you’ll be converting pounds to euros and can incur fees on top of this.
Receiving deliveries in Netherlands – What if I’m not in?
If you’re not in when something gets delivered it is common for Dutch postal services to knock on your neighbour and give the package to them. Unlike the UK (especially London for example) the Dutch make a lot of effort to get to know their neighbours (if they haven’t introduced themselves to you yet then expect them to soon). The Dutch will also use neighbours to take take packages and postal workers will rely on this more than the alternative of taking a package back to a depot. Otherwise you can get your delivery sent to a pickup point which are very common in Amsterdam for Bol.com and Amazon. You can also leave specific instructions for delivery person on your door.
